Esthetik’s second event was a basement rocking, monitor shaking, sweat-on-the-walls affair. The Resolute offshoot’s monitor shaking event is no exaggeration. Martin Landsky had to repeatedly reposition a monitor that constantly spun on its stand into the wrong direction because of the full pulses of thick bass that caused everything to shake in the The Delancey’s basement.

The night took off full throttle with Esthetik’s resident, Steven LeTigre. Tempo pushing tech house screamed with reports of ultra crisp high hats and devastatingly chunky kicks. The room packed up quickly and everybody got down to the serious business of moving everything they had on the dancefloor to the choice beats. Soon, LeTigre pulled back on the throttle after getting the night out of the gate and into deeper waters, readying things for Martin Landsky.

Poker Flat’s stalwart tech house master, Martin Landsky, took the controls. He pulled the throttle back a bit more, settling our continuing house influenced journey into a cruising, seductive tempo. Delectable stabs of synth from bass heavy deep house tracks, like Trickski’s The Warm Up, were teasingly worked through filters, whipping the crowd into a dance crazy frenzy. Landsky worked up a sweat as much as the dancers did while squeezing every bit of funk he could from the tracks he launched upon them. He soon took things into deeper minimal realms, firing off other worldly tracks like JPLS’ Twilite pt. 8. Landsky slowly got us to the floor of these minimal depths, entering a dimension of warped beats and twisted synths. Tracks with saw tooth serrated, deep pitched techno vocals soon peered curiously from the darkness, touching the crowd with their exotic sounds.

Unfortunately, the bouncer eventually came in and whispered into Martin’s ear. The end of a brilliant night became a reality we didn’t want to face. Martin took us back home with some pared down, dubbed out, tech house like Namito’s Jou Jou, a track that is on his recently released unmixed compilation, Werkschau. He slowly stripped things down until the last track faded away. Werkschau, a retrospective collection of Landsky’s favorite produced and remixed tracks is available in all fine electronic music stores.

Viennese collective Franz Architekten recently finished their newest project, a family house in Zellerndorf in southern Austria. Their design rethinks the traditional notion of farmhouse, reinterpreting it through a more contemporary lens. The structure is partitioned to accommodate all of the standard components of a farmhouse including barn, stables, residence, parking, storage etc. The house has a real Richard Serra feel: minimal, geometric, large scale and block-like. The residential area is divided into communal and private, as in living room and kitchen, bedrooms and bathrooms. The architects took full advantage of the vast property with the addition of a huge wooden terrace, an extremely modern swimming pool and a lush garden nestled by the garage.

Spanish collective Luzinterruptus’ latest installation, “floating presence,” is currently resting on the Albacete waters near the eastern mountains of La Mancha. Eighty lit anthropomorphic bodies are spread across the calm Spanish waters, illuminating the picturesque landscape. The installation’s location is famous for being the setting of the Spanish film “Amanece, que no es poco.” Luzinterruptus’ gentle intervention reflects the dream-like portrayal of Albacete as it was rendered in the film. The traditional site-specific nature of the project connects it to its surroundings as it lives congruously with the environment, engendering a symbiotic relationship between art and nature.

The mission of the laboratory, established and run by biologist Colin Foord and musician Jare McKay, explores the realm of aquaculture and all of its inherently artistic qualities. The two have been collaborating to create short underwater HD videos, creating a kind of site-specific art revolving around the investigation of coral life. The videos provide detailed glances at the microscopic details of sea creatures like the face of a thorny oyster. When magnified you can see and appreciate the organism’s painterly, psychedelic properties. The inside of the shell is almost reminiscent of a Monet painting, white blotches sitting upon the shell’s undulating crimson landscape like lily-pads floating on water. The magnification in conjunction with the HD quality of the picture allow you to experience the visually stunning details of details of details.

Norwegian based artist Kristoffer Myskja’s “Interference Machine” is a motor-powered apparatus whose sole purpose is to articulate a modest sonic gesture: playing wine glass rims. A mini industrial gadget that makes music, “Interference Machine” is made of brass and metal. The motor propels the gears, causing the arms to move and stroke the lips of the glasses. Myskja currently lives and works in Oslo. To view more of his works, visit Myskja’s website.

Remember the days when you thought you could talk to your girlfriend or boyfriend with two tin cans and a string? Well when first looking at these speakers you might assume they are sound devices made of home materials but they are in fact legitimate and incredible speakers. The PVC pipe speakers are perfect for mp3 players and ipods and do not make the bass sound awful as so many smaller speakers do. The speaker’s three way binding posts are located on the back along with the bass port on the end of the bass port. Although the speakers are great, you will need to purchase a separate amplifier or purchase a mini amplifier with your purchase of the PVC pipe speakers. Just as you had free range to customize those tin cans you can also customize the colour these speakers come in. If you are not interested in customizing the PVC pipe speakers they come in either white, yellow, or red and are hand painted with a high gloss lacquer.Source: Geeky Gadgets
