Sebago just released their fall 2010 Collection of Vintage Docksides boat shoes. Clearly boat shoes are no longer just used by sailors anymore. No, these trendy shoes made a comeback as a stylish slip-on shoe made for casual and everyday use. If you want the look of a worn shoe used on the deck daily out on the lake then these are perfect. The shoes comes with stains and signs of wear and tear. The look is awesome and eliminates the stiff-look new Docksides usually have out-of-the box. Not to say they won’t last you as long a brand-new looking pair will, you just won’t have to wait as long to have them look vintage and worn.

If you want a quick fix meal that is also incredibly delicious this pasta with pancetta and leeks will be your savior. First of all it only takes 15 minutes to make and second of all it is incredibly hard to mess up for everyone who is not a classically trained chef. The ingredients are not hard to find and require no special grocery stores. Also for summer entertaining it is easy to change the quantities in the recipe and make it for as many or as few people as you want. The pasta is in a cream sauce but it is very light so nothing to worry about if it is a hot day and you don’t want anything too heavy. This truly is the perfect recipe if you are not looking to spend a lot of time in the kitchen.

When you think of Spring and Summer collections typically you think color. To break the mold Neil Barrett decided to use primarily black in his spring/summer 2010 collection. This is a bold move but it paid off in the spectacular clothing line he produced and we have a feeling no one will be complaining because of the lack of color. The collection is very cosmopolitan and yet has a military twist to is. Two of the jackets are firmly structured in the shoulders and bodice with straight lines. The shoulder buttons and four pockets on two of the collection’s jackets give a distinct military feel. Despite the rigidity of some of the garments, many are made with what looks like a very light-weight material that somehow works with the military style. Barrett even managed to pull off a men’s full-legged romper that looks stunning on the runway.

The collection is flawlessly cohessive and it is almost guaranteed that Barrett will receive praise for stepping outside of the box for spring and summer collections by using black and a military style. Not the typical loose colorful look we see. Not to mention he did a brilliant thing by choosing to use black because his collection will undoubtedly stand out against the rest.

“Casa 6″ was designed by architect Marcio Kogan based on a request by the family. The family wanted rooms outside with a cover that could be used for everyday life. The tropical climate in Brazil calls for families to use some creativity when building homes to keep them cool. Since the colonial era Brazilian architects have typically built rooms known as “the gallery” that are linear covered rooms that border living rooms and bedrooms and act as intermediate spaces between the outside and the inside. Casa 6 reinvents “the gallery” because now the living and family rooms are the covered outdoor rooms. The covered rooms in Casa 6 act as the TV room, living room, and an extension of the kitchen. They open up directly to the garden and pool. This house is significant because this type of architecture might start to pop up more considering how practical it is for the climate of Brazil.

Not only does this house reinvent typical Brazilian architecture but it is also incredibly beautiful. The rooms are long and contain linear modern furniture in simple colors. A light wood carries throughout out the house and gives it a very tropical feel. Even the pool follows the same shape as the two main areas of the house and fits in perfectly with the design. Marcio Kogan accomplished the family’s very specific request and did it without sacrificing the beauty of the home.

If only this is what came out when we folded up white pieces of paper and cut random designs to make “snowflakes” when we were kids. Unfortunately, nothing as beautiful as these actual snowflakes ever does. Because it is summer it is almost as if we can appreciate these photos more and get lost in the beauty of their unique shapes. In the winter they may not seem nearly as inspirational but right now they can draw you in. Everyone assumes that each snow crystal looks the exact same but as you can see from studying these photos each has its own pattern. Hopefully seeing these will make wintertime a little more enjoyable knowing that pile blocking your car in the driveway is actually made of unique, beautiful agglomerates of frozen ice crystals falling through the atmosphere on Earth. At least the notion will distract you just a little from the frustration that snow typically can bring.

The Brooklyn-based design due RockPaperRobot! presented these two tables at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair. The first table titled Float and Brag is made of 64 cubes and is strung together by wire; however, the table is mostly held in position by magnetic force. It is a crazy optical illusion because the cubes appear to be floating. According to a person who actually saw and felt the table it was also very bouncy. Probably not the best coffee table but it could for sure find a place in anybodies home because of its general beauty. Even if this table did not have the amazing aspect of being held in position by mostly magnetic force, it would be a great piece of furniture. The unique way it is held together is just an added bonus.

The second table the duo presented was a diamond-shaped table titled Brag for obvious reasons. The table is made of Corian and appears to be balancing on a very fine point even though it is just as sturdy as a table with four legs. Although a diamond shaped table may seem ostentatious the table looks classy and clean instead. RockPaperRobot! is known for their unique furniture, lighting, and accessories and impressed everyone at ICFF this year with these two designs.

Mike Simonian in collaboration with Peter Schouten designed the Flowlab above. This crazy skateboard was designed by Simonian and Schouten with the goal of merging the flexibility riders can get with a snowboard with the sport of skateboarding. Instead of having just two wheels like a typical skateboard the Flowlab is equipped with 14 arranged in a set of curved parallel lines. In skateboarding, riders can’t get the same lean in turns as snowboarders because of the rigidity the two wheels forces you to have. With the Flowlab it completely changes the degree to which riders are able to make their turns. With a typical skateboard you can lean up to 25 degrees, while the Flowlab takes it up to 45 degrees- and extreme difference. If the Flowlab becomes big amongst riders it could significantly change the sport of skateboarding and the tricks the riders are able to pull off. It would amazing to start seeing courses at games made for the Flowlab.
