Damian Lazarus’ Memory Box on Get Physical Track Review By Stuart Pierre

Damian Lazarus‘ Memory Box (club remix) elicits a slight chuckle with its pitched down, machine vocals depicting an artificial gentleman’s malfunctioning memory. As filtered speak-and-spell sounds bleep percussively, our ailing robot complains via a limerick like pair of rhyming couplets. Crisp snares and hats counterpoint his tale of names not remembered and conversations ruined by faulty memory against a backdrop of subdued rhythms.
The B side, Spinning (Sasha remix), is a funky collection of interlocking loops kept in motion by a drive train of snappy beats and rolling, analogue bass. The word “spinning” is repeated periodically while snippets of the sample are looped. Ethereal vocals eventually enter, haphazardly sliced into thin, echoing sheets and messily layered into pretty, pitch-varied piles. The beats and bass fall out as the track slows while reaching its midway point. A variety of bells report until an alarm like, guitarish lead reverberates, signaling that the track’s throttle is being pushed forward again. The ringing continues as the rhythms crescendo back, accompanied by squelchy synths.

BLKmarket Membership + Cielo Presents Damian Lazarus

Last week, Blkmarket Membership teamed up with Cielo night club for a very special night with Crosstown Rebels’ own, Damian Lazarus. Lazarus never falls short when it comes to impressing the crowd. The venue was packed with techno patrons engulfed by the bass soaking through their eardrums. Lazarus played a Gradient favorite, a remix of Hugo’s The Sloop. Playing a wide range of sounds, from Tech House to Minimal, Lazarus was absolutely on point! Adding to this special night were Blkmarket residents Taimur & Fahad, who are hands down the best DJs in NYC right now. Check out the rest of the post for pictures from the event.

Firecracker Featuring Tiefschwarz Audiofly Steve Lawler

Firecracker was held July 3rd,2009 at Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC, it was a nonstop minimal dance party for twelve hours straight to ring in Independence Day. Slated to spin were Victor Calderone, Steve Lawler, Hercules and Love Affair, Damian Lazarus, Audiofly and Tiefschwarz, but unfortunately Damian Lazarus was ill and didn’t make it. On the bright side, it did allow for an amazing two hour set by Tiefschwarz, who got the crowd really moving by 1:30 am and kept it going strong.
