New York City’s electronic music scene is largely dominated by two event promoters; meet ReSolute and the Blkmarket Membership. If these two names are irrelevant to you, then you have either been going to the wrong parties for the past few years, or you are just too soaked up in New York City’s lame night life scene. The duos have produced exclusive events that have been recognized internationally and allow up-and-coming DJs as well as famous DJs to showcase their music in North America. They are also strong contributors to the resurgence of groovy tech house and minimal techno in New York City.

Ironically, the powerhouse event organizers decided to team up and create a tasteful electronic event for the year’s wackiest holiday- Halloween. The event was called “Get Spooky,” and it was held in a secret location. We didn’t hesitate to accept our invitations to attend this secret location gathering. In order to find out the exact location of “Get Spooky,” party go’ers were required to send an rsvp email to a designated address that would alert them on the venue chosen to host the party.

It was a Halloween night alright. A full moon joined with a glowing fog, hovered below the warehouse district of Greenpoint, Brooklyn. The music was penetrating the thick industrial walls that housed a projecting Funktion One Sound System. Security quickly ushered patrons into the dark hallway where the bass rumbled through our chest. Upon entering the main venue, the smell of burning incense rushed into our nostrils along with damp air touching our face. The meticulous thumping and melodies slowly became familiar as we stood and listened to their whispers.

The Halloween atmosphere was in the air, before entering we knew this wasn’t going to be any typical Halloween, of course you had people wearing cheesy costumes and cheap face paint, but on the other hand you had some of the best music in New York being played here! The set up was great and really captured the trick o treat mood, spider web was wrapped around the ceilings, and hooks themed after the “Get Spooky” flyer were randomly placed around the venue.

By 3 a.m., there was a crowd of over 1000 people, and we had a chance to catch up with Taimur and Fahad of Blkmarket Membership behind the decks. They played classic tech house tunes which are always a pleasure to hear. Taimur and Fahad are known as perfectionists when it comes to mixing the latest tracks. After they DJ’ed, The crowed kept moving to Danton Eeprom who took center stage, dressed as a gay sailor with a tight white shirt and a cap which covered his shoulder length hair. Playing some modern day techno classics like Grindhouse and Face Control, Eeprom was amazing.

The music kept on going with Evil Craig Richards pulling out his bag of vinyl that included Kiki’s – Luv Sikk. His set was geared towards the warehouse atmosphere that was associated with secret parties. Craig Richards was at his best, keeping the growing crowd immersed in sci fi sounds and ringing bells. His set was one of the best we have heard in 2009. The dance floor was rumbling and the ceiling was literally cracking as residue was sprinkling over the huge crowd.

For those that missed this event we feel very sorry for you and for those of that say Halloween is overrated, well it is, but not when you’re going to a ReSolute & Blkmarket Membership collaboration event.
