On August 16th Samsung and Sprint will launch the Reclaim, an affordable phone (under $50 with mail-in rebate) that has a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, e-mail and Web access, a 2.0 megapixel camera and GPS navigation. So what’s special about the Reclaim? It’s case is partly made of corn-based biodegradable plastic. 60% is non-biodegradable since heat from the device could soften or melt the case, but nonetheless, the Reclaim is the first phone to use bioplastic instead of recycled plastics. The cheap price is also definitely a plus, but the standard 2-year service commitment is still a requirement.
